CONCEPT

Come celebrate the Carnation Revolution with needles in hand. In this workshop we will have a very special guest, Guida Vieira! She was an unavoidable figure in the fight for the labor rights of Madeira’s embroiderers.
Come meet her!

Historically, embroidery has been at the center of profound debates about labor, exploitation, and global inequality. What is often seen as a domestic and silent act is, in fact, one of the oldest forms of political, social, and cultural expression.

Recently, we have seen embroidery transform into a language of mourning and denunciation (as in the case of the genocide in Palestine), proving that each stitch can be a cry of solidarity. In this workshop, embroidery emerges as an expression of resistance.
