Natural Dyeing and Madeira Embroidery Workshop – Jenita Spínola + Bailha
Dye and embroider your own cotton scarf (90x90cm). In collaboration with artisan Jenita Spínola, we have prepared a workshop where color and traditional émbroidery meet.
PROGRAM:
This workshop invites participants to immerse themselves in a complete creative process: from extracting the dye from the “Rubia Tinctorium” plant to the final embroidery details. Led by Jenita Spínola, a specialist in natural dyes, and the Bailha team, we will explore the connection between the earth’s resources and traditional craftsmanship.
The morning will be dedicated to “Rubia tinctorium” (ruivinha), one of the oldest dye plants, known for creating shades ranging from terracotta to deep red. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to needlework, where we will apply the traditional stitches of Madeira Embroidery in compositions chosen by the participant.
Workshop structure:
- 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Traditional dyeing (Jenita Spínola): Introduction to natural dyeing and fiber preparation. Extraction of color from the “Rubia tinctorium” plant and the process of dyeing cotton scarves.
