Cyanotype Workshop

This workshop combines the manual and material dimension of embroidery with the experimental nature of cyanotype, where you can create your own blue images (photograms) on paper and fabric.

Using elements strongly associated with the Art of Embroidery, such as threads, lace, fabric textures, and floral motifs, we will draw with light and create different photographic compositions.

The program

The 3-hour session (10am-1pm) is designed to guide you through all the stages of this historic technique: 

• A brief journey through the history and chemical and visual principles of cyanotype.
• How to mix the photosensitive chemicals and apply them to paper and textiles.
• Free experimentation with the arrangement of elements and objects (threads, needles, lace, flora) on the sensitized surfaces to create the image.
• Guidance through the light exposure process and washing in water.
• Tips on how to dry, care for, and preserve your cyanotype pieces for the future.

All technical materials are included (various materials and an eco-bag).

Important note

Although we have many materials available, you can bring your own personal objects with interesting outlines (such as pressed flowers, family lace, or cut-out silhouettes) to make your photograms even more unique and personal.

• Location: Casa da Cultura de Santa Cruz - Quinta do Revoredo.
• Who it is for: Anyone curious about combining experimental photography with textile art. No prior experience is necessary!
• Languages: The session is conducted in Portuguese and English.

To ensure quality guidance for all participants and the smooth running of the workshop, please note the following conditions:

Capacity: The workshop requires a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 13 participants. If the minimum number is not met, the registered participants will be contacted in good time.

Cancellations and refunds: We know that plans can change. The registration fee will be fully refunded if you cannot attend, provided that the cancellation is communicated to us at least 2 days before the scheduled date.
