Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Below we have gathered the answers to the most common questions about our hand-embroidered pieces and our workshops. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please feel free to contact us at info@bailha.pt
About Pieces and Orders

1. Why is the store stock so limited?

Time is our greatest luxury. Bailha is a slow fashion brand that respects the natural rhythm of creation. Each piece is hand-embroidered by artisans on the island of Madeira, a meticulous process that can take several hours or even days to complete. For this reason, we do not mass-produce; we create limited batches and unique pieces, ensuring maximum quality and exclusivity.

2. Where can I see and try on Bailha pieces in person?

If you value feeling the texture of our fabrics and appreciating the detail of the embroidery up close, you can visit our physical partners. Currently, our pieces are available at the Jacafé store in Funchal, and at A Vida Portuguesa and D'Olival stores in Lisbon.

3. Can I request a custom or bespoke piece?

At the moment, we are focused on launching our exclusive collections. However, we occasionally open slots for special requests. If you have a unique idea in mind, send us an email and we will evaluate our artisans' availability.

4. How should I care for my Bailha embroidered piece?

Our pieces are "textile jewels" made to last for generations, but they require care. We recommend hand washing with cold water and mild soap. Never scrub the embroidered area. Let it air dry, laid flat, and iron inside out at a moderate temperature.

Shipping and Exchanges

5. Where do you ship your pieces to?

Madeiran heritage travels with us. Currently, we ship from Portugal to all of Europe and the United States. At the time of checkout, shipping costs and delivery times will be calculated automatically based on your destination.

6. How long does it take for my order to arrive?

Once the purchase is confirmed, we prepare your order with great care in our eco-friendly packaging within 1 to 3 business days. After shipping, the transit time depends on the destination (usually 2 to 5 days for mainland Portugal and the islands, and 5 to 15 days for the rest of Europe and the USA).

7. What if the piece doesn't fit? Can I return it?

At Bailha, we only accept exchanges and do not process returns. As each piece is fully designed and hand-embroidered by our artisans, the time-consuming and highly dedicated process makes every creation practically unique. This artisanal nature makes the common return logistics found in mass-production brands unfeasible. If you need to exchange the size or model, you have a period of 14 days after receiving the order to do so. The piece must be sent in its original condition, with no signs of use and with the respective signed artisanal labels.

About Embroidery Workshops

8. I have never embroidered in my life. Can I participate in a workshop?

Of course! Our workshops are designed for all levels, especially for beginners. More than just technique, we offer a cultural, therapeutic, and connecting experience. Our artisans and facilitators guide each participant, step by step, in a welcoming and non-judgmental environment.

9. What is included in the workshop fee?

When you book your spot, we ensure everything you need to relax and learn: direct instruction and shared stories from our artisans, a cozy space with tea, coffee, and snacks available, and your Bailha Embroidery Kit (which includes a hoop, threads, needles, and fabric with the design). At the end, the kit and your creation go home with you.

10. How does booking a spot for the workshops work?

The entire process is simple and 100% digital. Just go to the "Workshops" section on our website, choose your preferred date, and complete the checkout as you would with a product. After payment, your spot is immediately secured and you will receive an email with all the details and instructions for the day.

11. I had an emergency and cannot attend the workshop. What should I do?

As our spots are very limited to ensure an intimate environment and respect the artisans' logistical preparation, we ask that you notify us at least 48 hours in advance. In those cases, we will be able to reschedule your participation for a future date. Last-minute cancellations (less than 48h) are non-refundable.

12. How can I join the Continuing Education classes even if there are more advanced people in the group?

Yes. Our "Open Studio" format means there is no one-size-fits-all curriculum in the same class. Instruction is 100% personalized and organic. At the same table, we will have people learning how to thread a needle and others perfecting complex Madeira Embroidery techniques. You will learn and progress at your own pace, with our dedicated guidance. Furthermore, sharing between people of different levels is exactly what makes this community so rich and inspiring.
